Subliminal message
Beer in general is propaganda because the way its presented to the public. Beer has been introduced to the public as a refreshing alternative beverage. The beer corporations advertise their product as a drink which parties revolve around. They make it seem that without beer social events are not as complete. Because without a sip of beer you’re not able to enjoy yourself.
I believe that this type of advertisement has reached the college students. During rush week, not a lot of people attended events because alcohol was prohibited. Even though alcohol was prohibited, people arrived at the party under the influence. The fact that they had to drink to have a good time shows that the advertisements had some effect. Once rush week was over everyone in my hall was excited because that meant alcohol will be the main, if not only, beverage and that the “real” fun would begin. The first frat party we went to after rush week everyone from my hall spent their time at the bar taking shot after shot. So that they could get buzzed and have a fun time at the party.
The media has also introduced beer to the over weight population by portraying it as a “light” beverage. Since everyone knows that beer contains an extreme amount of calories, which cause weight gain, people have been extremely cautious about the beer consumption. Now that “light” beer has been advertised, they make it seem like there is no excuse for people not to buy beer.
